Phentermine and Ozempic for Weight Loss

Phentermine and Ozempic for Weight Loss

Phentermine has been around for decades as an affordable short-term option for weight loss. However, Ozempic is a newer medication that works the same as Phentermine. Continue reading to find out the vital difference between Phentermine and Ozempic that you should know.

There are currently eight medications that are FDA-approved. They help you lose weight, and another may be added to the list as early as this summer.

Ozempic, the type 2 diabetes medication is manufactured by Novo Nordisk. It is currently seeking Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for weight loss in adults.

What Is Phentermine?

Phentermine is a stimulant drug used short-term to assist you in losing weight by decreasing your appetite.

It is currently approved for use in combination with diet and exercise in older people who have a BMI more than or equal to 30 kg alone or 27 kg.

if you have noticed high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

This medication is not recommended if you are under 17 years old.

It would be best to buy Phentermine online after being prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Phentermine was approved in 1959, so it has been around for a while.

Its chemical structure is comparable to amphetamines but has not been found to have the same dependency or withdrawal issues. However, it is a controlled substance with misuse and dependency warnings.

Phentermine is available in 15 mg, 30 mg, and 37.5 mg strengths (capsules and tablets).

They are taken mid-morning or divided into two doses.

It is also available as a lower-dose 8 mg tablet called Lomaira that is taken three times daily before food. You can also find it in combination with Topiramate (Topamax) under the brand name Qsymia.

How Does Phentermine Work?

Unlike Ozempic, Phentermine has stimulant effects. It boosts your central nervous system, which affects chemicals in your brain to make you think you are full.

This medication impacts your health best when you buy Phentermine online or offline and consume it as prescribed by your doctor.

You will typically take it an hour or two hours after eating breakfast in the morning, which will help reduce your appetite over the course of the day.

For example, taking one 30 mg capsule daily has been shown to lessen your need for 12 to 14 hours.

What Is Ozempic?

Ozempic (Semaglutide) is an injectable medication administered once weekly to help with blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes.

It may also lower the risk of significant cardiovascular occurrences in people with type two diabetes and heart disease.

People who generally buy Ozempic online for diabetes also tend to lose weight, so the manufacturer conducted clinical trials to see if people without diabetes would see the same benefits.

They found this the case and filed an NDA (New Drug Application) with the FDA to expand the medication’s use to include weight loss in older people who are overweight or obese.

Ozempic is the second drug in its class to be approved for weight loss in adults. Saxenda, which Novo Nordisk also manufactures, was the first to be approved.

How Does Ozempic Work?

Ozempic works by mimicking a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GPL-1). GPL-1 plays a role in digestion and appetite regulation, inducing you to feel full and consume fewer calories.

After eating, Ozempic stimulates your pancreas to release insulin and blocks a hormone that induces your liver to release sugar.

It also slows how quickly food leaves your stomach (called gastric emptying), causing you to feel full for longer. But Ozempic can also cause unpleasant side effects like nausea and vomiting.

While other medications in their drug class sometimes require them to be administered daily. Ozempic only needs to be used as prescribed since it continues to work in your body for longer.

Phentermine and Ozempic

Now that we have explored the fundamentals of Phentermine and Ozempic let’s see how they compare in terms of efficacy and safety.

Which medication is the most effective for weight loss?

Phentermine and Ozempic have not been researched side by side for a direct comparison, but the studies demonstrate the following:

  1. Phentermine

Studies of 2 to 24 weeks of treatment with Phentermine (average 13 weeks) found that it resulted in a total weight loss of approximately 6.3kg (about 14 pounds).

Compared to a placebo, people taking Phentermine could lose an average of 3.6 kg (about 8 pounds) of extra weight.

Although Phentermine 37.5 mg (or any other form) is recommended for short-term use, some medical experts may prescribe it for long-term use.

While there are not many long-term safety and efficacy studies with Phentermine, a recent cohort study found that people taking the drug for more than three months saw more significant weight loss without an improved risk of cardiovascular disease or death.

  1. Ozempic

There is no evidence that Ozempic is effective for weight loss in people without diabetes. But in most phase three trials that studied it for this purpose, study results showed a 15% to 18% weight loss in adults who were overweight or obese.

The duration of treatment was 68 weeks in all four Phase three trials.

Are there any dangerous side effects with either drug?

When starting Phentermine and Ozempic, it is essential to understand the risk involved. Here are some occasional things that you should know.

  1. Phentermine

Phentermine, on the other hand, has no boxed warning. But rare cases of primary pulmonary hypertension, PPH, and valve regurgitation have been reported. Both conditions can be fatal.

Phentermine can cause dangerously high blood pressure if you take it at or within two weeks of taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), such as those used in Parkinson’s disease and depression.

Therefore, you will want to ensure that your provider knows about any medicine you are taking or have recently taken before starting Phentermine.

  1. Ozempic

In addition to ordinary gastrointestinal (GI) adverse effects such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, Ozempic has a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents.

While the risk is unknown in humans, you should avoid taking Ozempic if you or any family member has a history of certain thyroid cancers.

There are some other warnings and precautions as well.

These include the risk of pancreatitis, worsening of eye problems related to diabetes, kidney problems, and severe allergic reactions when using it for blood sugar control.

Keep in mind that Ozempic is not yet approved at high doses in people without diabetes, so the FDA has not determined its safety and efficacy.

Can you consume Phentermine and Ozempic at the same time?

Although these medications work differently to assist you in losing weight; therefore, it is advisable to avoid taking them simultaneously.

They have not been studied together, so we do not know if it is safe or beneficial to be on Phentermine and Ozempic concurrently.
